- Ten Hag believes Manchester United can win trophies this season
- Dutchman under-fire after poor start to 2024/25 campaign
- Red Devils recorded dramatic win over Brentford on Saturday
Erik ten Hag has set an optimistic target for Manchester United, admitting that he wants his side to win silverware this season.
While under-fire manager Ten Hag is on a mission to prove himself during the 2024/25 campaign, he believes the Red Devils still have the capability to win trophies. Since his arrival in 2022, the Dutchman has lifted both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, despite falling short in the Premier League.
Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford has gifted Ten Hag a newfound confidence after a poor start to the campaign prior.
“You have to live for now in football,” the boss told the Football Writers’ Association. “So it’s [trophies] all in the past, but you have to prove every day, prove yourself every season, so we have to go for it.
“We are just at the start of the season, but of course, that is a target, to win a trophy again. The spirit has always been high, but of course, it helps, the mood will be better if we win.
“Everyone has high expectations of our team so we have to win every game and go for it. We have to be determined and when we win, we enjoy it for 24 hours and then we move on.”
United will return to action on Thursday when they face Fenerbahce in the Europa League. Their next Premier League clash is set for Sunday when they travel to London to face West Ham.
